New In: Effa Abayas

Effa can very well be called the queen of Abayas. Season after season she manages to create the most decadent abayas that everyone always wishes for. Her classic cuts are tempered with just the right amount of sparkle and shine. Although she can make an incredible every day abaya, party abayas are her forte, and this open cut abaya with silver and grey satin fabric detail is one of her most simple, yet fabulous creations. It comes with a detachable lace belt so that you can easily change up your look at a moment’s notice.

Taking the marriage of technology and fashion to another level, this laser cut abaya boasts a satiny caramel and cream lining. The subtle floral detail keep it from being too girly and the piping along the edges finish it off to perfection.

This last Effa wonder is made in the “Bist” style with a unique textured fabric and lace detailing on top and along the sleeves. Along the front trim, a cord and tassle dangle delicately down to the waist. A matching lace scarf worn as a turban really take the whole look to another level.

Chanel Paris-Dallas Metiers d’Art 2013/2014 Collection

Fashion folks from all over the world descended on Dallas, Texas last week for the Chanel Metiers d’Art show. Guests from Dakota Fanning to Kristen Stewart (who will be the new face of Chanel) attended the huge occasion boasting more than nine hundred people. The show was  held at Dallas’ Fair Park and focused on vintage Americana, with big, flouncy skirts and  denim dresses galore. The classic Chanel jacket took on a more boxy feel, while most of the looks stayed in the loose and covered category. Karl Lagerfeld brought back the hair bow, which is something you’ll either love or hate. Regardless, the clothes stand on their own as statement pieces however you decide to do your hair.

The only hiccup in the clothing was the Native American inspired pieces like the feathered headdresses.

Many people took offense to the Native style clothing. The spokesperson at Chanel sent a sort of apology to Fashionista.com telling them that: “The Chanel Paris-Dallas Metiers d’Art 2013/2014 collection is a celebration of the beauty of Texas. Native Americans are an integral part of Texas’ rich history and culture and the feather headdress, a symbol of strength and bravery, is one of the most visually stunning examples of creativity and craftsmanship. We deeply apologize if it has been misinterpreted or is seen as offensive as it was really meant to be a tribute to the beauty of craftsmanship.”

Complete with a built in movie theater, more than seventy vintage cars and even a mechanical bull, Lagerfeld sure knows how to put on a show.

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2014

When you think of Monique Lhuillier you generally tend to think of evening gowns, don’t you? For the most part, that’s usually my first thought. That’s definitely not what this spring collection was all about. “Women have busy lives. Their clothes need to be real,” says Monique Lhuillier. And create real clothes is just what she did. Delicate pieces were mixed with heavily embroidered and beaded ones all worn together with a tough-yet-femme gladiator style high heel. Gladiator seems to be the shoe that can’t be beat this spring.

Lots of sheer and lace overlay with bandeau tops peeking out from underneath. Very fresh and light with bright white and different shades of orange and pink. Fantastically beaded detachable collars and girly yet sophisticated silhouettes make this one a phenomenal collection.

Derek Lam Spring 2014 Runway

Derek Lam, “a California boy who was raised in San Francisco in its hippie heyday” style.com wrote, showcased his new spring collection at New York Fashion Week just today, not with crazy brights or even pastels one might normally associate with spring and rebirth and whatnot. Nope, there was a lot of black and white, some yellow and blue. Gingham played a big role, and as Leandra Medine of the Man Repeller Instagrammed while watching the show: “Please invite me to your picnic!” Spot on, I say.

Don’t worry though, his collection was complete with dresses, wide leg pants and structured tops. One of my favorite looks featured all creamy white dress with large pockets and cutout shoulders. Topping it off was a fringed scarf reminiscent of something from an Isabel Marant collection but still distinctly Lam. These same scarves were also used as loose belts. Large belts were used to pull everything else together, including these great spring coats, and uh-may-zing gladiator sandals finished off the runway looks.

The Best of Cannes Red Carpet | Part II

The Best of Cannes Red Carpet | Part II

Round two of the best dressed on the numerous red carpets to be found at Cannes! Of course Anna Dello Russo in one of the most well known Balenciaga pieces, also one of my personal favorites with the crop top- so minimal on top and so ruffly on the bottom- the best of both worlds in one outfit. Bernice Bejo stuns in this Elie Saab number and Giovanna Battaglia wears this bright pink caftan so well. Similar to the ones sold here on 3abaya.com, this long jalabiya is elegant enough for the red carpet!

Turkish star Saadet Aksov shines brilliantly in this sheer, beaded column dress. Zhang Ziyi wore Elie Saab Couture that was covered in the most beautiful detail. Belted, this three-quarter length sleeved gown is exactly on trend while still maintaining it’s classy feel. Karlie Kloss rocked a lot of Louis Vuitton, this feathered hem in particular was so young and fresh.

Did you have a favorite? There were so many incredible fashion moments it was difficult to choose!
